About the Role

The Department of Health & Social Care is seeking a highly experienced and skilled individual to fill the position of Deputy Director for Health Improvement, South West. This is a senior-level role that requires a strong commitment to public health principles and team working.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and effective health improvement and workforce development advice and support to the local community and partners in the public health system.
  • Manage a team of health improvement and workforce development staff who deliver functions devolved to the region from the Secretary of State and national guidance.
  • Support the Regional Director in the strategic oversight of the contribution to improving and protecting the public's health and reducing health inequalities in the South West region.
  • Collaborate with partners in the South West to build and develop the local public health system through the provision of expert advice and insight.
Requirements
  • Meet the Faculty of Public Health Competencies expected of all public health consultants/specialists.
  • Hold a license to practice as a medical professional or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Have a strong commitment to public health principles and team working.
  • Be self-motivated, proactive, and innovative with high standards of professional probity.
