We are seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician with a strong background in general repairs and upkeep to join our luxury student accommodation facility in Exeter's city center.

In this role, you will be tasked with ensuring an exceptional experience for our residents by delivering a proactive and responsive maintenance service, addressing faults and maintenance requests promptly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate initiative in providing outstanding customer service, effectively communicating with management and colleagues.
  • Coordinate with and oversee onsite contractors to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Manage daily reactive and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Conduct planned maintenance tasks, including fire alarm testing, emergency lighting checks, fire extinguisher inspections, water hygiene monitoring, and health & safety assessments.
  • Perform regular inspections of the premises to identify maintenance needs or health and safety concerns.
  • Carry out scheduled inspections of residential units and address any resulting actions promptly.
  • Document, track, and manage any maintenance issues in the maintenance logbook.
  • Maintain accurate records for all services, including gas safety inspections, lightning protection systems, fall arrest systems, PAT testing, and fixed wiring certifications.
  • Ensure that all Property Documentation Files are meticulously maintained and current.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies, ensuring that Risk Assessments and Method Statements are obtained and maintained, and that safe work practices are followed, including Permit to Work and hot works permits.
  • Engage with residents professionally, showing understanding and empathy towards any maintenance concerns, recognizing that this is their home.
  • Report any welfare issues to management without delay.

Key Requirements:

  • Exhibit ownership of responsibilities and take pride in the quality of work performed.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations and their implications for ongoing work.
  • Hold relevant qualifications in plumbing, carpentry, or electrical systems, if applicable.
  • Have prior experience in domestic electrical, plumbing, or general maintenance.
  • Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in business operating systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Collaborate within a team to cover reception and administrative duties while gaining familiarity with the student booking system.

Work Hours:

  • We are ideally looking for a candidate to work five 4-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday, with flexibility in shift patterns.
  • There may be a requirement for overtime on weekends during peak student turnover periods and check-in weekends.
