A thriving university environment encompasses more than just infrastructure; it is about fostering a welcoming atmosphere and community that enables students to feel secure and flourish. At UPP, we recognize the significance of this and have established dedicated onsite teams at our partner universities to deliver a comprehensive range of facilities management services aimed at ensuring student safety and enhancing their living experience.

This is a permanent role requiring 37.5 hours of work per week (7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week on a shift rota covering the hours from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Monday to Sunday). Key responsibilities for the Facilities Maintenance Technician include:

  • Performing reactive maintenance in line with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and providing immediate response when maintenance requests are logged through the Workplace Management System (Planon) using a portable electronic device to document job details.
  • Maintaining the environment according to the SLA, ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of the premises by monitoring plant rooms and communal areas.
  • Assisting with mandatory testing, including fire alarm checks, fire extinguisher inspections, fire blanket assessments, water temperature monitoring, and emergency lighting evaluations.
  • Generating reports (both verbal and written) regarding compliance, maintenance activities, and condition assessments.
  • Identifying and reporting any Health and Safety concerns related to the premises, ensuring all relevant information is communicated to the appropriate Manager(s) and taking immediate actions to mitigate risks.

We are committed to enhancing the experience of our residents and invite individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on students living away from home to consider this opportunity.

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and environment, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a strong desire to excel in their duties.

A solid understanding of operational procedures and safe working practices related to building services and systems is essential, along with a comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations, ensuring safe working practices at all times.

A valid UK Driving Licence is a prerequisite for this role.

Flexibility to work additional hours when required, particularly during peak student arrival and departure periods, is expected.

What we provide:

In return, we offer a dynamic and engaging work environment with a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package, which includes 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, life insurance, pension contributions, a cycle-to-work scheme, store discounts, and access to our UPP Rewards portal, featuring discounts from various retailers, restaurants, gyms, and more.

We also provide two paid volunteering days each year to support a charity of your choice.

Our employees are central to our operations, and we welcome all individuals who share our values, irrespective of their background or identity.

Embracing our differences is what drives UPP's success and allows everyone to feel valued and supported in the workplace.

We take pride in our Investors in People accreditation, which recognizes organizations committed to their workforce. Only a small percentage of accredited organizations achieve the gold standard, and we are thrilled to hold this distinction.

We are a vibrant team driven by energy, pace, and passion; if this resonates with you, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.
