Job Summary

Voxconsultants is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Apprentice Manager in our Ecology Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading our biodiversity agenda, overseeing the management of our nature reserves, and promoting sustainable living practices.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Supervision: Supervise and manage a team of Nature Conservation Officers and Nature Conservation Apprentices, allocating tasks and ensuring effective day-to-day management of the Ecology Centre.
  2. Centre Management: Manage the Ecology Centre as an education and visitor centre, promoting nature conservation and sustainable living practices, and ensuring the centre's opening times meet customer needs.
  3. Facilities Management: Oversee the day-to-day management of the Ecology Centre, including bookings, maintenance, security, and health and safety.
  4. Nature Reserve Management: Oversee the management and development of the borough's Local Nature Reserves and other nature conservation sites, reviewing their management and maintenance.
  5. Volunteer Programme: Develop, coordinate, and promote the volunteer programme, supervising volunteers and creating new volunteering opportunities.
  6. Community Engagement: Engage with the community to promote nature conservation and sustainable living practices, and advise other interested parties on improving and managing sites for nature conservation.
  7. Strategic Direction: Support the Head of Parks in developing strategic direction for the service, reporting on key performance indicators and contributing to Green Flag, London in Bloom, events policy, and wider parks initiatives.
  8. Project Management: Manage projects to improve the nature reserves and other wildlife sites, ensuring effective resource management and community engagement.
  9. Representation: Represent the Council and Greenspace at events and meetings, making presentations and giving talks to promote the work of the service.
Requirements
  1. A minimum of 2 years' experience of managing nature reserves, parks, or other open space.
  2. Experience of supervising and managing staff or volunteers to deliver excellent services.
  3. Experience of delivering an education/events programme and/or managing buildings or internal spaces.
  4. Knowledge of a Council's duties around biodiversity and the role of urban nature conservation in delivering wider social objectives around healthy communities, social cohesion, and quality of life.
  5. Knowledge of biodiversity policy and legislation as it applies to the planning system, including Biodiversity Action Plans and Biodiversity Net Gain.
