Job Title: Lean Specialist

Job Purpose

This position reports directly to the APU and the EOS Manager and is responsible for supporting the EnerSys Operating System (EOS) transformation efforts. This position implements and supports actions that bring about improvements to operations and processes which may include, but are not limited to, safety, quality, delivery, growth, margin expansion and inventory levels. Projects will be integrated with the region / plants lean deployment efforts and meet the guidelines, criteria and metrics established by the business.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Executing against long and short-term objectives to support EOS Goals;
  2. Working with other departments in the APU to identify, address and eliminate process related obstacles;
  3. Assisting in the change of systems/processes as required in support of the EOS initiatives;
  4. Utilizing mapping techniques to understand optimal information, material and production flow methods;
  5. Shopfloor presence, leading own and operator based improvement projects
  6. Acting as a change agent to bring about improvements in process through actively leading, supporting & participation of Rapid Improvement Events (RIE), including: Supporting pre and post standard work; Leading & participating in projects/events; Leading & participate in MDI Gemba walks and coach employees on continuous improvement, standard work developments /modification/ adherence, flow and problem-solving techniques; Providing necessary training specific to lean transformation tools and methodology under the guidance of the EOS Manager.
  7. Assisting in updating and maintaining visual performance tools, MDI & Accountability boards, Heydo.
  8. Supporting cycle time analysis, time studies, work balance/flow improvements, work place analysis and improvement;
  9. Supporting problem solving, root cause identification & preventative fix.
  10. Helping develop more efficient ways to utilize people, machinery, materials, information and energy to make a product or service;
Requirements
  1. Demonstrated deployment of lean tools and methodology ie 5S & problem solving
  2. Ability to lead and direct an improvement team in particular at shopfloor level
  3. Must be a results-oriented 'change agent';
  4. Demonstrating Problem solving, project management, A3 thinking, quality and basic financial principles and apply them to analyze the planned activities;
  5. Flexible and adaptable to meet the requirements of the role;
  6. Able to present and respond to questions from individuals at all levels of the organisation;
  7. Able to mentor team members and facilitate change from a position of influencer;
  8. Able to energize and motivate a team;
  9. Able to recognize conflict and take appropriate action within the scope of the role;
  10. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  11. Computer Literate (Word, Excel, PowerPoint with the capability to create spreadsheets for analysis and tracking of data-based metrics)
  12. Understanding of manufacturing principles/practices;
Education / Qualifications
  1. Minimum of 24 months manufacturing process experience;
  2. Certified lean belt programme or equivalent experience
