Physiotherapist for COPD Management

Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is a prominent healthcare organization in the UK, employing approximately 40,000 professionals across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide comprehensive healthcare services, including acute hospital care, primary care, community services, and mental health support to a population exceeding 1.15 million.

The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

The Community Respiratory Team is an agile and responsive multidisciplinary team (MDT) dedicated to assisting patients with moderate to severe COPD in their homes. This team consists of Physiotherapists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Rehabilitation Support Workers, and various leadership roles.

This service is grounded in evidence-based practices, with the MDT focusing on three key intervention pathways:

  • Prevention of hospital admissions (support during acute exacerbations)
  • Early supported discharge
  • Chronic disease management (rehabilitation and self-management)

The successful candidate will collaborate with the team to deliver holistic, timely, individualized, and clinically effective care. This includes assessment and treatment aimed at managing exacerbations effectively, preventing avoidable hospital admissions, maximizing patient function, and promoting self-management. You will also facilitate the early discharge of COPD patients from healthcare facilities.

Collaboration with the Respiratory Early Supported Discharge (ESD) team and hospital-based respiratory assessment services is essential. A Degree in Physiotherapy and current registration with the HCPC are required for this position. Membership in Disclosure Scotland's PVG is also necessary.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is committed to fostering a diverse workforce and encourages applications from all community sectors. We promote an inclusive culture throughout the organization.

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is dedicated to being a Forces Friendly Employer, recognizing military skills, experience, and qualifications during the recruitment process.

From April 2024, NHS Scotland will implement a reduction in the full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours, with no change in pay. This adjustment will also apply pro rata for part-time staff. This job listing reflects the new working hours, but some service areas may require temporary adjustments to accommodate the new schedule.
