Communications Officer Job Description

Positive Employment is seeking a skilled Communications Officer to join our client, a local government organisation in Southampton. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy, encompassing research, media, public relations, marketing, internal communications, and digital communications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Communications management team in the development and implementation of a communications strategy and plan.
  • Engage with local businesses and communities on the organisation's City Plan consultation, encouraging participation and explaining the importance of their involvement.
  • Develop and implement a communications plan to promote services across the organisation, increasing awareness and access to services.
  • Manage the efficient operation of communications activities, budgets, and targets as part of an annual communications plan.
  • Work effectively with councillors and managers to identify and solve problems, evaluate communications methods, and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements:
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent academic achievement.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience working in a communications role.
  • Understanding of the media, PR, and marketing industries.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of writing and implementing campaigns and project plans.
  • Excellent knowledge of local authorities, its structures, policies, procedures, and processes.
Working Hours:

09:00am - 17:00pm, Monday - Friday
