Position Overview

Executive Network Group is seeking to engage a skilled Automation Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team focused on the design and programming of comprehensive automation and robotic assembly solutions for manufacturing clients across Europe. This role is pivotal in a new initiative backed by a prominent international engineering organization.

Role: Automation Systems Engineer

Location: West Midlands (accessible from various surrounding areas)

Compensation: Up to £55,000 + overtime + benefits

As a subject matter expert in automation controls, you will oversee the successful delivery of multiple automation projects, guiding them from initial specifications through to design, simulation, and the commissioning of robotic production cells for automated assembly lines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement industrial control systems, including PLC and HMI programming, ensuring seamless integration into robotic production environments.
  • Assist in the specification and tendering processes for new projects.
  • Supervise the installation, commissioning, and factory acceptance testing at client facilities.
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot electrical and automation issues.

Required Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience as an Automation Systems Engineer or similar role, with a deep understanding of PLC automation and low-level industrial control systems. You should be adept at leveraging technology to enhance high-volume production processes.

  • BSc or HNC in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing, programming, and commissioning PLC control systems for automation projects.
  • Expertise in Siemens TIA & S7 or Allen Bradley PLCs, along with knowledge of HMI, vision systems, robotic integration, IoT, Industry 4.0, and MES.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and optimizing industrial automation projects in high-volume manufacturing settings.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, hydraulic, and industrial communication networks.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuitry and safety standards.
  • Proficient in structured problem-solving and process change management.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and Europe for on-site commissioning.
