Position: PLC Software Engineer

Location: Telford

Premier Technical Recruitment Ltd is representing a well-established company with nearly two decades of experience in delivering comprehensive hardware and software solutions, including robotic systems integration and bespoke automation projects for a wide array of clients across the UK. Due to ongoing success and strategic growth initiatives, they are looking to hire a skilled Controls / PLC Software Engineer to enhance their accomplished software team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage individual engineering projects while maintaining adherence to lead times and quality standards.
  • Develop technical documentation that aligns with client specifications and industry standards, utilizing appropriate technical features, diagrams, and language.
  • Create customized software routines and functions to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machines and systems.
  • Implement safety software in compliance with relevant standards, particularly BS-EN13849, for systems utilizing safety controllers.
  • Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance of all systems and bespoke software prior to deployment and commissioning.
  • Commission bespoke systems at both the company headquarters and client sites within the UK, with potential for occasional international travel.
  • Be prepared to work on-site for up to 70% of the year, with the remaining time spent in the office, all travel expenses covered by the employer.
  • Participate in additional training as necessary and work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with Siemens TIA Portal and/or Allen Bradley Studio 5000.
  • Strong understanding of PLC programming using ladder logic, including Functions blocks, Function calls, and Data blocks.
  • Proven skills in HMI screen development and on-site commissioning of industrial automation systems, including conveyor control and machine interfaces.
  • Solid knowledge of safety controllers, drive configuration, motor control, and industrial communication systems such as Profinet, Ethernet, and Profibus.

The ideal candidate will possess a full UK driving license, excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and the ability to engage effectively with clients at all levels. A relevant qualification at HND level or above in electrical, electromechanical, or controls engineering, along with a minimum of three years of experience in similar roles, is essential.
