Role Objective

In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the execution of the Bank's strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements, particularly in the areas of Incident Management, Operational Resilience, and Business Continuity. This diverse position is ideal for a proactive individual who thrives in hands-on roles and enjoys engaging with a variety of stakeholders.

As the Operational Risk Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Acquiring an in-depth understanding of the business sectors that influence customer outcomes.
  • Identifying potential risks related to the role and formulating effective remediation and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinating responses to issues and incidents to minimize impacts on customers and stakeholders, ensuring prompt restoration of service operations.
  • Acting as the primary escalation point for incidents, evaluating reported incidents while assessing their impact and urgency.
  • Establishing standards for Operational Resilience to maintain operations within acceptable disruption thresholds for critical business services, supported by specific outcomes and risk metrics.
  • Creating a robust Business Continuity and crisis management framework, developing and implementing Business Impact Assessments (BIA) and Business Continuity Plans (BCP), while embedding governance, roles, and responsibilities.

In this role, you will be expected to...

  • Ensure that deliverables are consistent with current and forthcoming regulations and best practices in the financial services sector.
  • Prioritize critical tasks by understanding essential business services and identifying those that may pose significant risks.
  • Execute the Bank's Operational Resilience strategy to effectively prevent, adapt to, respond to, recover from, and learn from operational disruptions.
  • Gather relevant information to determine if an incident requires declaration and classify its severity (from minor to critical).
  • Lead enhancements in Business Continuity by designing, developing, and implementing plans that meet regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide oversight through effective governance and monitoring of controls and practices.
  • Foster a positive culture throughout the Bank and integrate it into daily operations.
  • Support teams across the Bank by defining and embedding shared responsibilities.
  • Develop and test incident response protocols.
  • Coordinate and oversee testing initiatives, identifying weaknesses and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare monthly and ad hoc management information for risk committees.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to provide updates on compliance and delivery progress.
  • Collaborate with external service providers as necessary to implement recovery and resolution strategies.
  • After incidents, analyze root causes and ensure that lessons learned lead to improvements.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Practical experience in incident response and management, operational resilience, and business continuity roles.
  • Proven knowledge of industry regulations and international standards.
  • Familiarity with ITIL Incident and Problem management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Major Incidents and Crisis Management.
  • Track record in developing business continuity deliverables.
  • Ability to lead and influence rapid response teams during crises.
  • Understanding of cloud service providers and relevant technologies.
  • Experience in Outsourcing and third-party risk management.
  • Project management and planning skills.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and a proactive mindset.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to analyze data for emerging risks.
