About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Dietitian to join our Diabetes Team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialist Diabetes Dietitian, you will play a key role in providing high-quality dietetic care to patients with diabetes, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver structured education and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • To assess, treat, and support patients living with diabetes who require dietetic support.
  • To deliver structured education and group sessions in various areas, including wards, outpatient clinics, and community settings.
  • To act as an autonomous practitioner and source of expertise in diabetes dietetics, supporting junior staff and other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • To undertake training, audit, and evaluation as part of the team, ensuring evidence-based practice.
  • To be actively involved in the training and supervision of student dietitians.
  • To contribute to Service Quality Improvement projects and attend multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • To empower patients through shared decision-making and provide clear, concise, and timely written information.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree/Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registered Dietitian.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Higher degree or advanced diploma in Dietetics.
  • Parenteral & Enteral Nutrition Group Clinical Update Course or equivalent Advanced Dietetic approved course.
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant post-registration clinical experience.
  • Experience of regular teaching and delivery of presentations.
  • Produce and present clear/concise and timely written information.
  • Clinical supervisory student training course and regular involvement in student training and assessment.
  • Portfolio of audit/research experience.

Desirable Experience:

  • Member of BDA Specialist Interest Group.
  • Published audit/research.

Knowledge:

  • Sound knowledge of clinical dietetics, including anthropometric measurement, biochemical interpretation, and devising highly complex nutritional treatment plans.
  • Detailed knowledge of clinical governance.
  • Participation in continuing professional development to ensure evidence-based practice.

Clinical Skills:

  • Advanced communication, motivation, questioning, and listening skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to reflect and critically appraise own work and that of others.
  • Able to prioritize workload and projects.
  • Work autonomously.
  • Produce and present clear/concise and timely written information.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities.
