Are you a collaborative team member, exceptionally organized, and thrive in fast-paced settings? Do you aspire to contribute to books that have a significant impact?
We are seeking a Publishing Editor to join a vibrant and high-achieving team at a pivotal time of expansion for Ebury, the leading non-fiction publisher in the UK.
Ebury Self, encompassing our Vermilion, Rider, and Happy Place imprints, represents one of the most consistently successful segments of Penguin Random House, featuring renowned authors in the realms of wellbeing, personal growth, health, parenting, and spirituality. Our impressive lineup includes experts such as Wim Hof, Brené Brown, Kirsty Gallagher, Glennon Doyle, Ed Winters, Fearne Cotton, Deepak Chopra, and Gabor Maté.
The Role
The Self hub is in search of a motivated and proactive Publishing Editor to assist the senior commissioning team in creating bestselling titles that inform, empower, and inspire new perspectives.
Reporting to the Editorial Director, you will oversee the management of acquired titles throughout the entire publishing cycle until they reach completion. Your responsibilities will include drafting cover text, briefing design teams, coordinating production timelines, and negotiating with freelance professionals. This position is ideal for a self-motivated assistant editor with a positive outlook and a strong team-oriented mindset.
Candidate Profile
You will:
- Possess experience in managing UK-originated titles through the complete publishing process, ideally with expertise in structural and line editing.
- Have a keen eye for detail, complemented by excellent proofreading abilities.
- Demonstrate the capacity to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize a diverse workload, and proactively manage deadlines and budgets.
- Be a confident and empathetic communicator, capable of establishing and nurturing effective relationships while providing exceptional author care.
- Show a genuine interest in audience preferences and trends within the health and wellbeing sectors, and be able to create engaging copy and clear design briefs that reflect this understanding.
Application Process
To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter, along with a brief overview of a recent bestselling non-fiction book that has inspired you.
About Penguin: We are the largest publisher in the UK, comprised of approximately 2,000 individuals and publishing over 1,500 titles annually. Our doors are open to diverse talent. In a constantly evolving industry, we strive to redefine what it means to be a publisher. Here, you will collaborate with a wide range of talent, all contributing to the success of our books. Together, we create literature for everyone, as a book has the potential to transform lives.
Disability Confident: If you have opted into our disability confident scheme, please note the minimum criteria you must meet to be considered for our interview scheme. There may be occasions where the volume of applicants means we cannot take all eligible candidates to interview.
Minimum Criteria
- Have experience managing UK-originated books through the entire publishing process.
- Be organized, capable of prioritizing and managing budgets.
- Exhibit high levels of attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills.
- Be able to craft copy for title information sheets, covers, and cover briefs.
- Have an interest in the non-fiction areas that the Self hub at Ebury publishes.
Salary: From £31,500, depending on how your skills and experience align with the role, plus bonus and benefits.
Competitive Benefits Package: Our people are the core of our business, and we strive to foster a culture of responsibility and recognition.
Our benefits include:
- Financial – discounted shopping, season ticket loan, rental deposit loan.
- Wellbeing - healthcare cash plan, employee assistance, gym loan.
- Lifestyle – taste card, tech scheme, free and discounted books.
For our full benefits list, please visit our website.
Hybrid Working: We are exploring a hybrid working model that accommodates the needs of each team. While our offices across the UK serve as venues for connection, collaboration, and celebration with colleagues, we recognize that flexibility in your work location is equally important. For this role, there will be some meetings and activities that require in-person attendance at our offices. Currently, the team is working towards a model of two days a week in the office, with the option to work remotely outside of these occasions.
Recruitment Process: You can read about our recruitment process on our website.
As a Disability Confident Committed organization, we offer interviews to candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria for the role and opt-in on their application form. There may be times when the volume of applications means we cannot take all eligible candidates to interview.
We encourage you to inform us about any reasonable adjustments you may need during the application process.
