Role: Senior Geriatric Consultant with a Focus on Frailty
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Senior Geriatric Consultant with a dedicated focus on frailty, primarily based at its Aintree Site. This role offers the opportunity to engage in the established Frailty Assessment Unit, delivering short-stay, ambulatory, and in-reach services to our elderly patients.
We are in search of a proactive and passionate professional to join our team of 12 geriatricians, which includes 3 specialists in frailty. Our innovative team provides a range of general and subspecialty services, including a Frailty Assessment Unit, a Hyperacute Stroke Unit offering 24/7 thrombolysis and endovascular interventions, Orthogeriatrics with Orthopaedic in-reach, Community Geriatrics collaborating with Integrated Care Teams, Metabolic Bone Disease services, Parkinson's disease management, Falls service, and a Day Hospital service.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be supported by junior medical staff, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, allied health professionals, and administrative personnel.
- The post holder will collaborate with fellow geriatricians to develop innovative 7-day services for older adults, both in hospital settings and within the community.
- They will work with colleagues across various sites to create a seamless and equitable service.
Acute Geriatrics Responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will provide frailty in-reach services to the emergency department. The number of patients seen per session may vary, but will not exceed 8 patients.
- They will participate in the DMOPS on-call rota.
- They will offer clinical supervision to trainees in the Department of Medicine for Older People and Stroke, as well as supervise undergraduate and other students within the department.
- There is an opportunity to establish a rapid access frailty clinic.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was formed following the merger of two adult acute Trusts. This merger allows for the reconfiguration of services to provide optimal healthcare to the community and enhance the quality of care and health outcomes for patients.
The Trust operates several facilities and serves a core population of approximately 630,000 individuals across the region, while also offering a variety of highly specialized services to a broader catchment area.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- MB ChB (or equivalent) and MRCP (or equivalent).
- Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice (or eligibility for) on the GMC specialist register for Geriatric and General Medicine.
- CCT in Geriatric and General Medicine (or equivalent training) or within 6 months of obtaining one at the time of interview.
- Clinical experience in frailty.
Desirable:
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians.
- Higher degree such as MD or PhD.
- Experience across various specialties required for CCT.
- Evidence of ongoing medical education.
