In the role of Laboratory Operations Supervisor, you will be instrumental in managing health and safety protocols across various manufacturing facilities, directly reporting to the Operations Director.

Your key responsibility will be to maintain a secure working environment by preventing incidents and ensuring adherence to all legal obligations, particularly those set forth by health and safety regulations.

You will provide leadership, direction, and support to cultivate a safety-oriented culture within the organization.


Policy Development and Implementation:

Formulate, execute, and continuously enhance comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures to guarantee compliance with legal standards and industry best practices.


Training and Guidance:

Deliver ongoing training and support to staff regarding health and safety protocols, ensuring a thorough understanding and strict compliance with established standards.


Collaboration and Integration:

Collaborate closely with other managers to incorporate health and safety considerations into operational planning, equipment usage, and work processes, promoting a proactive safety culture.


Inspections and Audits:
Conduct regular inspections and audits to evaluate compliance with quality and operational standards.

Risk Assessments and Method Statements:
Plan, prepare, and review risk assessments and method statements for all work activities to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Conduct and deliver off-site risk assessments and method statements for contractor and staff installations, including coordination with crane companies for contract lifts both on and off-site.

Toolbox Talks:
Facilitate weekly Toolbox talks and additional sessions as necessary to reinforce safety protocols and address specific concerns or risks.

Client Communication:
Engage with clients regarding the organization’s health and safety standards, addressing inquiries and concerns as needed. Manage documentation related to subcontractor certification and accreditation.

Training Programs:
Identify and organize suitable training programs to meet the company's operational requirements, ensuring employees receive relevant and up-to-date training.

Regulatory Compliance:

Oversee compliance with lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations, as well as the provision and use of work equipment regulations, including coordination with external support services.


Plant and Machinery Management:
Assist in the procurement and management of plant and machinery, including scheduling maintenance and repairs to uphold safety standards.

Site Meetings:
Participate in site meetings to provide input on health and safety matters and address concerns raised by employees or stakeholders.

Regulatory Reporting:
Report incidents to the relevant health and safety authorities as mandated by law, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements. Develop and deliver presentations on health and safety topics to enhance awareness and understanding among employees.

Asbestos Management:
Plan and oversee asbestos removal projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and safe handling practices.

Emergency Response Planning:

Design and implement rescue and recovery plans for emergency situations, coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective response procedures are established.


NEBOSH Diploma:

Possession of National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) certification or an equivalent qualification in health and safety management.


Experience:

Demonstrated experience in a health and safety management role within an engineering or manufacturing context, with a comprehensive understanding of industry-specific risks and hazards.

In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including relevant regulations, and the ability to interpret and apply legal requirements effectively.


Analytical Skills:

Expertise in conducting risk assessments, method statements, and incident investigations, with a strong attention to detail and an analytical mindset.


Training and Presentation:

Capability to deliver engaging training sessions and presentations on health and safety topics, tailored to the needs of diverse audiences.


Contractor Management:
Experience in managing external contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational requirements.

Organizational Skills:
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects concurrently.
