About the Role

The Learning Disability Service is a Specialist service consisting of Learning Disability Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, and Support Assistants who offer a range of services for children and adolescents with a diagnosed Learning Disability, from assessment and intervention to consultation, liaison, and training for other agencies.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support the Clinical lead in supervising staff and trainees within the Pathway as appropriate.
  • Take a leadership role in the clinical psychology service within the Specialist Learning Disability Pathway provided by Family Health Devon Service Directorate, promoting clinical governance and quality improvement.
  • Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within professional and guidelines as a specialist within Child & Family Health Devon Service Directorate.
  • Receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and Professional Practice Guidelines set out by the Health Professions Council/British Psychological Society or appropriate designated Professional Body.

Job Requirements

Qualified Clinical Psychologist (or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Clinical Psychologist Status in the British Psychological Society.

Broad knowledge of psychological services and of the services in the NHS where psychology is applied to the mental health needs of children and young people with a Learning Disability.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Clinical Psychologist
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience in use of assessment tools such as Vineland 3, Wisc, Wais
  • Car Driver

Desirable

  • Further training in Psychology Interventions
  • Experience and knowledge of working with young people with a Learning Disability
  • Advanced psychological assessment and formulation skills, including risk assessment
  • Partnership working experience
