Position Overview

Are you dedicated to the field of Cardio-respiratory Physiotherapy and eager to enhance your expertise in a dynamic and esteemed healthcare setting?

We present a remarkable opportunity for a skilled and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to engage in a comprehensive 7-month rotational program, allowing you to gain experience across various Critical Care specialties, including the Intensive Care Unit, Neuroscience Critical Care Unit, Acute Respiratory Ward, and our Non-Invasive Ventilation Service/Clinic. There is also a possibility to rotate to a renowned partner institution.

This role is suitable for Band 6 Physiotherapists who are prepared to deepen their specialization. Our team is supportive and committed to delivering exceptional service to all patients, while continuously seeking innovative approaches to enhance our offerings. You will receive robust support in acquiring new competencies and additional training within this regional trauma center.

Participation in our Emergency out-of-hours services, including weekend and on-call duties, is a requirement.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include providing high-quality physiotherapy services to patients in:

  • Intensive Care Unit (General, Tertiary, and Transplant ICU)
  • Neuro Critical Care Unit and associated Neuro Wards
  • Respiratory and Cardiology Wards
  • Acute Non-Invasive Ventilation Service and Outpatient Respiratory Physiotherapy
  • Surgical Wards and Intensive Recovery Unit

You will engage in the Band 6 rotational program, spending 7 months in each of the aforementioned clinical areas. The option to rotate through Pediatric services is negotiable, should you wish to include this as part of your specialization.

This specialist rotational position will enable you to further refine your respiratory skills in an acute care environment and enhance your rehabilitation capabilities for Intensive Care patients.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
  • State Registration
  • Evidence of relevant postgraduate education/CPD

Desirable:

  • Membership in a professional body, such as The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience:

Essential:

  • Comprehensive rotational experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist
  • Experience in managing and rehabilitating patients requiring respiratory care across various medical and surgical settings
  • Experience in tracheostomy management
  • Experience working collaboratively within a Physiotherapy team and/or multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in providing clinical education to junior staff or assistants
  • Recent involvement in on-call respiratory duties

Desirable:

  • Experience supervising students
  • Experience as a Band 6 in diverse specialties, including Respiratory
  • Experience in community settings
  • Experience in conducting formal presentations

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy
  • Understanding of Type 2 Respiratory Failure and its management

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Community and Primary Care operations
