Position Overview
Embark on a fulfilling career journey with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). We are dedicated to fostering an environment where purpose, growth, and a sense of belonging are paramount. Our employees often share their experiences, illustrating what it truly means to be part of HMRC.
About Our Team
We are thrilled to present an opportunity to join the Financial Controls Assurance Team (FCAT) at HMRC.
In this dynamic and fast-paced setting, you will cultivate relationships while offering specialized advice on process risks and controls related to HMRC's operations for managing UK taxes, duties, and benefits.
This role provides an exceptional chance to enhance your leadership, assurance, and collaborative skills.
FCAT operates under the Risk, Control & Financial Accounting Directorate within the Chief Finance Officer Group at HMRC. Our mission is to guide HMRC towards a comprehensive understanding of its key risks and ensure effective control measures are in place.
As a small, geographically diverse team, our responsibilities span all HMRC taxes, duties, and benefits processes, as well as corporate processes that lead to financial transactions or entries in HMRC's published financial statements.
We work in partnership with HMRC’s Business Groups and Change teams to integrate, assure, and elevate financial control standards. Our expert guidance and challenge help safeguard HMRC by ensuring that robust financial controls, including segregation of duties, are effectively designed and implemented to mitigate risks related to fraud, error, and money laundering.
Most of our efforts focus on the various taxes, duties, and benefits administered by HMRC, covering all aspects of the customer journey, including registrations, returns, claims, payments, penalties, interest, and debts.
Scope of Work
Our role excludes financial management tasks such as forecasting, budgeting, and expenditure monitoring.

- Providing expert advice, challenge, and assurance to Change teams on their projects, ensuring that HMRC's standards for controls and segregation are integrated into the design of new and evolving systems and processes.
- Influencing Change projects to comply with control and segregation standards prior to their implementation, promptly escalating any instances of non-compliance.
- Offering support to team members as needed, including coverage during absences.

Candidate Profile
