Job Summary

The Welding Engineer - Material Solutions Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the manufacturing needs of Holtec International by providing innovative material and welding solutions. This position requires a strong understanding of welding processes and materials, as well as excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Material Selection and Welding Solutions: Provide technically significant and economically important material and welding solutions in support of manufacturing and design.
  2. Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting: Identify, evaluate, and resolve non-routine materials joining and manufacturing engineering problems in a timely and informed manner.
  3. Project Planning and Evaluation: Proactively seek and accept responsibility for solving new and difficult materials joining and manufacturing engineering challenges, while assessing and managing risks.
  4. Design and Manufacturing Support: Review new product plans and make recommendations for material selection based on design objectives, such as strength, weight, heat resistance, electric conductivity, and cost.
  5. Process Improvement: Identify new and/or improved welding processes/techniques for improving Holtec applications.
  6. Technical Support: Work with design and manufacturing engineering to resolve materials joining issues before and during manufacturing, and provide technical support to suppliers and customers.
  7. Equipment Support: Provide support to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems.
  8. Material Performance Monitoring: Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration. Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
  9. Testing and Control: Participate in the testing or control of materials processing procedures.
  10. Reporting and Budgeting: Prepare proposals and budgets, write reports.
  11. Economic and Technical Evaluation: Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of two (2) years of welding engineering experience in a manufacturing environment or related experience.
  2. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of and experience with weld symbols and reading fabrication drawings. Professional demeanor, innovative thinker with the ability to present ideas, concepts, and theories to all levels. Good communication and presentation skills (written and verbal).
  3. Travel Requirements: Ability to travel 10-20% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Prior Welding Experience: Prior welding experience preferred.
  2. Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of: ASME Section III & IX; AWS D1.1, D1.2 & D1.6; MIL-STD 248/278.
  3. Certification: Certified Welding Inspector.
