About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer is a pivotal position at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, responsible for delivering operational excellence and leading the continuous improvement of our services. As a strategic leader, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board to develop the Trust's strategic direction and ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Work with the Chief Finance Officer to ensure robust financial management and target delivery.
  • Strengthen the Trust's governance culture and foster a spirit of innovation and learning.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements, including emergency planning and resilience.
  • Act as Lead Chief Operating Officer for the Black Country ICS and/or Black Country Provider Collaborative for defined programmes of work.

Person Specification

  • Masters Level qualification in a relevant subject area, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable record of continuous professional development.
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills.
  • Able to lead and work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Successful track record at Director/Senior Management Level, including exposure to Board Level in a large complex organisation.
  • An understanding of key NHS Service Performance Standards.
  • NHS Leadership Competency: Driving high-quality and sustainable outcomes, setting strategy and delivering long-term transformation, promoting equality and inclusion, creating a compassionate and just culture, collaborating with partners and communities, and providing robust governance and assurance.
