The Opportunity

We are excited to announce openings for several Senior Category Buyers to join our team on a Full-Time, Permanent basis.

As a Senior Category Buyer, you will oversee strategic procurement activities within your designated business area. You will collaborate closely with the Category Manager to implement category strategies, engaging with various business units to provide supply chain insights and recommendations, manage contracts from strategic sourcing events, lead negotiations, and effectively engage with suppliers.

These roles are critical, managing high-value, essential goods and services while working at senior levels within the organization to align with business priorities.

We are seeking candidates across various disciplines, including:

Direct Category Management

This involves procuring equipment and services such as transformers, steel structures, switchgear, cables, civil works, and vegetation management to support National Grid's business units. Opportunities are available within both our UK and US operations, as well as roles that serve the entire NG Group.

Indirect Category Management

This area focuses on acquiring goods and services necessary for the daily operations of the National Grid Group, covering aspects like facilities management, fleet management, IT products and services, and various professional services. These roles have a broad focus across the NG Group, often collaborating with teams in both the UK and US.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization, within procurement, and externally, to develop commercial strategies and source the necessary goods and services to meet business needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing category strategies, commercial recommendations, and executing sourcing strategies, ensuring best-in-class procurement practices that deliver value. Managing multiple strategic sourcing events within your portfolio, collaborating with stakeholders to understand and optimize demand while ensuring optimal commercial solutions for National Grid. Supporting the overall development and execution of assigned category strategies and sharing best practices across category teams. Analyzing category characteristics and researching supply markets, suppliers, and trends to provide insights to Global teams and Market and Supplier Development teams. Delivering value through effective management of tender events for key products required by the business. Collaborating with Contract Managers and/or Procurement Programme Managers to ensure successful delivery of contracted activities, identifying continuous improvement opportunities through supplier and stakeholder engagement, and maximizing value from awarded contracts. Setting an example of excellence in procurement standards, mentoring and guiding Buyers and Associate Buyers to adopt best-in-class methodologies across National Grid Procurement. Contributing to a proactive planning process by identifying future requirements and ensuring robust forecasting to maximize the value of procured goods and services.

About You

A degree or equivalent experience. Extensive experience in strategic sourcing and category management. Familiarity with project management principles and a proven track record of managing multiple projects with outstanding results. Strong negotiation skills and the ability to lead negotiations effectively. Proficiency in building and managing complex commercial assessment models. Experience in contract development, including the ability to recommend amendments to existing contracts and draft new ones.

What You'll Receive

A competitive salary ranging from £46,415 to £58,760, depending on your capabilities.

In addition to your base salary, you will be eligible for a performance-based bonus and a competitive contributory pension scheme with a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to various flexible benefits, including a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, employee assistance programs, and matched charity contributions.

Additional Information

This position is offered on a Full-Time, Permanent basis. We support hybrid/flexible working arrangements, with office attendance based on business needs. Some international business travel may be required for this role.
