Community Engagement Coordinator
Overview
The role of a Community Engagement Coordinator focuses on fostering connections with individuals and communities. This position is pivotal in encouraging participation and inclusivity at National Trust locations. By collaborating with volunteers and local organizations, you will play an essential role in the Trust's mission to safeguard and nurture sites for the benefit of both people and nature, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
Work Schedule: 30 hours per week. The operations run seven days a week, necessitating regular weekend shifts (approximately once every three weeks), along with some bank holidays and occasional evening work. Typical shifts are from 9 am to 5 pm and may be structured as fixed days or flexible within a rota system.
Work Environment
You will be part of a vibrant and diverse team comprising staff and volunteers. Reporting to the Programming and Partnerships Manager, you will collaborate with a team of three, focusing on events, programming, volunteer engagement, and community outreach. This innovative team prioritizes human connections, whether through partnerships, creating memorable experiences for visitors, supporting volunteers, or generating content for social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
As the lead for the volunteer experience at the property, you will work closely with department heads and volunteer managers. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from recruiting and onboarding volunteers to organizing social events and managing our alumni network. We are initiating a program aimed at community collaboration with local groups, and you will be instrumental in establishing connections with potential partners. Engaging with local educational institutions and community organizations, you will seek out communities that share cultural ties to our historically significant collection.
You should possess a solid understanding of volunteer management principles and demonstrate the ability to adapt your communication style to suit diverse audiences. Recognizing the distinctions between staff and volunteer roles, particularly regarding legal frameworks, rewards, and recognition, is crucial. As the landscape of volunteering evolves, we seek someone who can identify innovative and flexible approaches for individuals to contribute their time.
You will also be part of the Duty Management Team, occasionally taking on operational responsibilities. This includes ensuring the property operates smoothly during open hours, serving as the primary contact for staff, volunteers, and visitors in emergencies, inquiries, or complaints. You will manage access to designated areas and handle security systems upon arrival and departure. Additional responsibilities can be discussed during the interview process.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are eager to hear from candidates who:
- Exhibit exceptional customer service and communication abilities
- Possess strong organizational, IT (Microsoft Office), and administrative skills, including meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects
- Have a solid understanding of volunteer management principles and are passionate about promoting the advantages of effective volunteer involvement
- Bring experience in volunteer management and comprehend the differences between staff and volunteer roles, especially concerning legal considerations
- Are adept at engaging with diverse individuals from various backgrounds and appreciate the significance of volunteering
- Can work independently and collaboratively, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and productive environment for both staff and volunteers
