Position Title: Product Safety Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness. We provide a variety of hybrid and flexible working options – please consult with your recruiter regarding the possibilities for this specific position.

Compensation: Approximately £36,000

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting Product Safety functional design analysis under guidance and offering specialized Safety advice within the defined scope, ensuring evidence for acceptance and suitability of structures, systems, components, and Whole Boat designs. This includes validating engineering data, analysis methodologies, and result interpretations to support Product Safety cases.
  • Generating Product Safety evidence relevant to the assigned responsibilities to meet qualification, legislative requirements, and safety justifications, while providing expert support for related activities. This also involves identifying and swiftly addressing issues arising throughout the product lifecycle and managing change activities from a Product Safety viewpoint.
  • Collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure their Product Safety needs are adequately addressed and integrated where appropriate.
  • Reporting on program status, identifying challenges, and implementing agreed recovery strategies for Product Safety activities, while assisting in defining Product Safety qualification obligations for assurance checkpoints during build, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Clearly articulating and presenting Product Safety arguments in a logical and straightforward manner.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven understanding of one or more Product Safety methodologies, including:
    • Identification and documentation of Product Safety requirements
    • Hazard identification and analysis using recognized techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Functional Safety Analysis (FSA), Zonal Hazard Analysis (ZHA), Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), and Accident Sequence Modelling (ASM)
    • Development and management of Product Safety cases
    • Review and evaluation of Product Safety cases, providing constructive feedback to influence others
    • Auditing Product Safety management systems and sharing insights to foster improvement

About the Product Safety Engineering Team:

This role involves providing technical guidance to the Engineering Delivery Manager (Safety & Environment) concerning Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Control & Instrumentation engineering systems, equipment, procedures, and standards in support of Whole Boat Safety Cases.
