Position Overview
The Medical Physics department offers a wide array of scientific and technical services across various healthcare facilities. The primary focus of the Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS) Section is to ensure the effective and safe operation of diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices through repair, calibration, and maintenance. This role involves supporting operational tasks across multiple workshop locations, with potential assignments at different sites based on demand.
This apprenticeship is structured as an 18-month fixed-term training contract, with the possibility of extending for an additional 2 years to achieve Level 4 qualifications. Candidates are expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4, including Maths, English, and Science or Technology, or an equivalent qualification. A gateway assessment will be conducted after the first year, which must be successfully completed to continue in the program. While prior qualifications and technical skills are advantageous, comprehensive training, support, and career development opportunities will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of a MEMS/RES team member, you will:
- Perform repair, calibration, and maintenance of various medical devices in hospital wards, departments, and community services.
- Integrate various factors and adhere to international standards and departmental quality systems when evaluating and selecting solutions.
- Utilize computer-aided design software to create drawings and assess specifications.
- Collaborate with the Head of MEMS/RES and other personnel to determine customer needs, reviewing these against safety and other standards to identify potential conflicts and limitations.
- Assist in the risk assessment and evaluation of medical devices.
- Modify existing equipment to adapt to evolving customer requirements.
- Conduct calibration and quality control of medical devices under supervision.
- Ensure all work complies with established procedures and meets the required quality and safety standards.
- Take ownership of the quality of your work.
About the Organization

This position is ideal for individuals who are self-motivated and interested in contributing to the operational efficiency and productivity of a healthcare trust, with a focus on delivering high-quality support to clinical services.
Successful candidates may be required to work flexible hours as needed.
