Role Overview:
The Principal Engineer for Marine Fire Suppression Systems plays a pivotal role within AERIUS Marine UK. This position involves supporting tender preparation, innovating Fixed Fire Fighting systems, generating design documentation, and providing technical assistance to commissioning teams, alongside managing design changes and upgrades throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transforming client specifications into effective system designs.
- Executing design calculations, including pressure loss, pipe velocity, sprinkler coverage, and pump sizing.
- Formulating and overseeing the control philosophy for Fixed Fire Fighting systems.
- Specifying and selecting equipment.
- Coordinating Fixed Fire Fighting systems with other ship systems, such as Platform Management, Low Voltage Electrical Distribution, Sea Water, Fresh Water, and HVAC systems.
- Engaging with project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including providing technical support for internal and external design reviews, integration, validation, safety reviews, and supplier design deliverable assessments.
- Upholding design intent throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture (HNC with relevant experience may be considered).
- Chartered Engineer status or progress towards it.
- Demonstrated design experience with Marine Fixed Fire Fighting Systems, including foam, water spray, local application, and gas systems.
- Familiarity with Defence Standards and Classification Society regulations.
- Proven ability to interface with clients effectively.
- Experience in supplier management.
- Capability to lead engineering teams.
Desirable:
- Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD.
- Understanding of system shock requirements.
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications.
