About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Head of Software to lead our software development team in Cambridge. As the selected candidate, you will be responsible for guiding and managing a talented pool of software engineers to deliver innovative solutions, define, and execute on software development programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Develop and implement a strategic technological vision for software development.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure delivery against agreed current and future priorities.
  • Implement mechanisms to monitor, manage, and provide progress on all software development activities.
  • Ensure all software development projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Take responsibility for departmental and project budget forecasting, estimation, and control.
  • Develop and implement a continuous improvement plan for software development.
  • Ensure that the skills and experience of the software team are consistent with business needs.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience in a management role.
  • A background in embedded software within a product development environment.
  • A thorough understanding of software development processes and tools, including elements such as version/configuration management, issue tracking tools, CI/CD, SAST, and SCA.
  • Experience of managing departmental budgets.
  • Exceptional organisational, interpersonal, and project management skills.
  • Experience with mentoring & coaching, performance management, technical arbitration, workforce and resource planning.
  • An analytical thinker with a logical and methodical approach to identifying issues and solutions.
  • Experience with developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting KPIs.
  • The ability to inspire a culture of continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of telecommunications solutions such as 4G/5G.
