Software Engineer Role Overview

A skilled Software Engineer with a passion for quality and a proven track record of full stack software development and design is required to deliver digital projects for Jaguar Land Rover in Manchester.

We are seeking talented engineers who thrive in dynamic environments, have a passion for innovative problem-solving, and prioritize quality-first coding and Continuous Integration.

You will be part of a multi-disciplined team helping deliver best-in-class digital solutions, working closely with Senior Software Engineers and other engineers to consistently deliver to challenging business objectives.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support and grow an entirely new software development capability within Jaguar Land Rover.

You will work on real projects alongside experienced engineers, using your passion for technology to quickly learn and adapt.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software to internal standards and best practices
  • Contribute to the development of parts of the software system
  • Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) and DevOps practices
  • Participate in agile development ceremonies
  • Investigate and resolve issues
  • Implement testing for software
  • Contribute to code reviews
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot
  • Experience with AWS, including Infrastructure as Code
  • Experience with container frameworks, Docker, and Kubernetes

We are also interested in candidates with experience in developing bespoke, enterprise-scale cloud-native applications, including:

  • Asynchronous technologies, such as MQ, MQTT, and Kafka
  • API development and technologies
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Greenfield and exploratory development
  • Deploying and supporting live applications, including Ops processes and bug fixing
  • Python, Bash, or other scripting languages
  • Microservices architectures and serverless deployments
  • Source code management and version control (GitLab)
  • Modern CI/CD tools and techniques
  • Previous involvement in all stages of the software delivery lifecycle
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and drive personal development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to Have
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools, such as Datadog
  • Familiarity with polyglot persistence and experience with NoSQL databases, especially DocumentDB
  • Experience with Kafka, HiveMQ, and ElasticSearch
  • Infrastructure as Code experience using CDK or Terraform
