Our client operates a dedicated listening service catering to all LGBTQIA+ communities across the UK. This service provides a secure environment for individuals to engage in discussions on various topics, including sexuality, gender identity, sexual health, and emotional wellness.
With over 17,000 interactions annually, the demand for their services remains high. Their extensive network of volunteers plays a crucial role in delivering essential support to individuals in need while also providing valuable insights into the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.
As part of their growth strategy, the organization is expanding its staff team to manage daily operations effectively.
Position Overview:We are excited to support a national LGBTQIA+ support line in their search for a Volunteer Community Lead. This full-time position offers a hybrid work model, requiring two days in the office and the remainder of the week flexible from home.
Key Responsibilities:This newly created role will be integrated within the charity's support line and will report directly to the Head of Volunteering and Training. The position will collaborate closely with key operational teams led by volunteers.
As the charity aims to enhance its volunteer coverage, the goal is to recruit and train approximately 100 new volunteers, increasing total membership to around 350. This number is expected to grow annually until the organization can manage all incoming communications effectively.
The primary focus of this role is to ensure the retention and engagement of volunteers, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community. The responsibilities include:
- Organizing volunteer social events and initiatives.
- Implementing wellbeing programs.
- Coordinating celebrations and recognition events.
- Promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts.
This role is essential for nurturing a vibrant volunteer community that reflects the rich diversity of the LGBTQIA+ population.
Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate will possess significant experience in organizing and executing a variety of social and professional events. A strong background in EDI initiatives and a genuine interest in workplace wellbeing are essential.
Exceptional interpersonal skills are crucial, as the success of this role hinges on effective communication and relationship-building. A comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community is vital, as these issues also affect the charity's volunteers.
Experience in managing social gatherings, analyzing data for impact assessment, and maintaining relationships with third-party suppliers is required. A collaborative, communicative, and empathetic approach to enhancing volunteer experiences is necessary.
Comfort with public speaking and engaging diverse audiences is important, along with strong organizational skills and a commitment to the charity's mission. Flexibility in managing in-person events is also required.
The organization is dedicated to building a team that reflects the communities it serves and encourages applications from individuals with lived experiences and from all marginalized groups.
