Join our clinical neuroscience psychology pathway at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role is centered on providing psychological support to individuals impacted by neurological disorders, acquired brain injuries, strokes, and functional neurological issues. As we expand our clinical neuropsychology services, additional pathways will be identified in collaboration with our consultant psychologists and the head of the clinical health psychology service.

The clinical neuroscience psychology pathway operates within the clinical health psychology services. Thus, you will engage in various clinical and governance activities alongside our consultant psychologists.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary role will involve delivering psychological care within a specialized adult clinical neuroscience and health psychology service as part of our trust.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing inpatient and outpatient psychological care to patients with various neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries, and functional neurological disorders.
  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and formulating complex neuropsychological issues to develop tailored care and management plans for each patient.
  • Facilitating brief group psychoeducation sessions for patients and their caregivers.
  • Ensuring effective communication with patients, caregivers, and colleagues within the multidisciplinary team and other community services.
  • Promoting the objectives of psychological care and ensuring patient and caregiver involvement throughout the treatment process.
  • Participating in training, audits, and service enhancements within the clinical health psychology services, guided by NHS priorities and developments in the psychological and therapy fields.
  • Upholding equality and diversity, adhering to relevant legislation and trust policies.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral-level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent), accredited by the BPS/HCPC, including models of psychopathology.
  • Proficiency in administering, scoring, and interpreting clinical psychometrics.
  • Expertise in two or more distinct psychological therapies and extensive knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Strong commitment to continuing professional development as evidenced by post-qualification training.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Desirable

  • Qualifications in research methodology, staff training, or other applied psychology fields.
  • Leadership training and experience.
  • Post-qualification training in neuropsychology and/or physical health issues.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment and treatment across various care settings.
  • Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and effect positive changes in practice.
  • Experience with diverse client groups, managing a range of clinical severity while maintaining professionalism.
  • Knowledge of current psychological theories and practices related to physical health.

Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development activities post-qualification.
  • Experience in a physical health environment with both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Experience in teaching, training, and/or supervision.
  • Experience in implementing change initiatives.
  • Knowledge of health psychology applications in diverse cultural contexts.
  • Understanding of clinical leadership roles within the NHS.
