Bath, Bath and North East Somerset, United Kingdom Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and skilled ACC accredited clinical coder to become a vital part of our dynamic and growing team.

This position offers flexibility with options for office-based, remote, or hybrid working arrangements.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously, utilizing their initiative to ensure the precise and prompt submission of coded data. They will be encouraged to share their knowledge while providing mentorship to junior staff, supported by a collaborative team and our internal training and auditing resources.

We are looking for a coder who approaches data quality with a critical mindset while consistently adhering to national clinical coding standards. The successful candidate will be equally focused on achieving productivity goals and deadlines, driven by a desire for excellence in these areas.

As the hospital transitions to a fully electronic patient record system, the successful candidate will not only be proficient in healthcare IT systems but will also be eager to explore the potential enhancements that digitization can offer.

The trust promotes a healthy work/life balance, allowing our team to work flexibly; the successful candidate will have the option to work on-site, remotely, or in a hybrid capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with clinical coding porters, medical secretaries, medical records staff, and ward personnel regarding access to case notes.
  • Attend all required training sessions for the use of ICD10 and OPCS4 coding standards.
  • Report any coding issues needing resolution either locally or through NHS Digital to the Team Manager or Professional Lead.
  • Identify and address any concerns regarding data quality related to the recording of inpatient episodes on the hospital's computer system.
  • Participate in Trust meetings as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with clinicians and managers to resolve any challenges in the clinical coding process.
  • Assist the clinical coding auditor/trainer with internal audits and processes.
  • Mentor junior coders.
