Head of Religious Studies Department

Job Summary:

We are seeking an exceptional senior teacher and leader to head up our thriving Religious Studies Department. As the Head of Religious Studies Department, you will be responsible for leading the strategic oversight of Key Stage 3 and 4, with planning ahead for the growth into Key Stage 5 for the first time in the school's history.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of teaching, learning, and assessment within the department
  • Have up-to-date knowledge of curricular guidance and use it in all planning and communications with relevant stakeholders
  • Work within and contribute to established Academy and department frameworks for lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation
  • Support the positive behavior of students across the faculty
  • Lead in the assessment process for Religious Studies and work with colleagues across the Academy
  • Actively contribute to the teaching of Religious Studies across all age and ability ranges
  • Remain informed of current developments in the subject areas, to participate in INSET and to initiate change where appropriate
  • Consistently plan and deliver outstanding lessons, ensuring that a variety of teaching resources are utilized appropriately
  • Support and actively contribute to the Academy's EDI strategy, taking oversight for this within the curriculum areas
  • Ensure that students' work is marked regularly and conscientiously, in accordance with the Academy feedback policy
  • Oversee, set, and mark internal examinations and tests as required
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of a wide range of teaching methods and to implement these in the classroom
  • Be fully committed to the Academy's house and enrichment activities
  • Possess excellent ICT skills and use these as a core tool in the teaching of Religious Studies
  • Provide accurate information for parents, attend parents' evenings and other presentation meetings as required
