Job Summary

MLK Education Search is seeking an exceptional senior teacher and leader to head up the thriving Religious Studies Department at a community academy in Southwark. As the Head of Department, you will be responsible for leading teaching within the subject, overseeing the strategic development of Key Stage 3 and 4, and planning for the growth into Key Stage 5.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of the Religious Studies curriculum, ensuring it is up-to-date and aligned with statutory guidance.
  • Communicate effectively with families and students about curriculum and delivery of RSE.
  • Contribute to the development of teaching, learning, and assessment within the faculty.
  • Stay informed of current developments in the subject area and participate in INSET to initiate change where appropriate.
  • Plan and deliver outstanding lessons, utilizing a variety of teaching resources.
  • Support and contribute to the Academy's EDI strategy, taking oversight for this within the curriculum areas.
  • Ensure students' work is marked regularly and conscientiously, in accordance with the Academy feedback policy.
  • Oversee, set, and mark internal examinations and tests as required.
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of a wide range of teaching methods and implement these in the classroom.
  • Be fully committed to the Academy's house and enrichment activities.
  • Possess excellent ICT skills and use them as a core tool in the teaching of RS.
  • Provide accurate information for parents, attend parents' evenings, and other presentation meetings as required.
