Job Title: Neurology Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Neurology Consultant to join our team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to patients with neurological conditions, working closely with a team of neurology specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals.

The Neurology Department at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a leading centre for neurological care, providing comprehensive services for patients in Gloucestershire.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality clinical care to patients with neurological conditions.
  • Examine and treat patients, supervise patient care, and provide on-call support as needed.
  • See patients referred to neurology from other teams within the hospital and in out-patient clinics.
  • Support the clinical decision-making of junior medical and nursing staff.
  • Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme and contribute to the development of the service.
Requirements:
  • Full GMC registration and MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via oCCT or CESR, with proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview.
  • MD or PhD, or additional degrees, diplomas, or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty.
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in Neurology.

  • Highly motivated and forward-thinking individual with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, show initiative, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Flexibility, honesty, and reliability, with a caring attitude towards patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses, and other agencies.
Research and Publications:
  • Ability to appraise research critically and apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals and ability to supervise junior staff undertaking research projects.
Information Technology:
  • Basic IT skills, including word processing and literature searching.
  • Understanding of medical information management systems.
Management:
  • Evidence of participation in Audit and Clinical Governance Programmes.
  • Ability to manage and lead a Neurology firm, with IT skills including database management and word processing.
Quality Management:
  • Ability to manage risk, manage change, and deal with complaints.
  • Commitment to CPD/CME and ability to take part in and respond to appraisal.
  • Experience in audit & clinical governance and working knowledge of evidence-based practice.
Teaching:
  • Ability to teach clinical and operative skills, apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems, and supervise postgraduate research.
  • Certificate of education involvement in undergraduate education and experience of teaching and clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
