About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled External Communications Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Communications and Marketing Team, you will be responsible for establishing a new in-house strategy, team, and plan. You will work closely with our trusted external advisors and key stakeholders to deliver our exciting ambitions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a new external communications strategy and messaging for the company, enhancing our brand reputation across Energy, Defence, and Maritime Transport.
  • Develop and implement a media relations plan, building relationships with key trade, national, regional, and local media stakeholders.
  • Manage press releases, technical and thought leadership content, and social media channels to drive a dynamic and integrated approach.
  • Work closely with our Group Corporate Communications and Marketing Teams to understand our business, markets, and customers.
  • Play an active role in our company rebrand in 2024, leading external communications activity.
  • Manage and work closely with our PR and creative agencies to deliver value from our partnerships.
  • Monitor and measure external communications activity, demonstrating impact and ROI.
  • Be an active member of our Emergency Response team, providing crisis communications advice and support.
  • Mentor and develop our communications executives, progressing their corporate communications careers.
  • Build strong and trusted relationships within the company, from shop floor to Executive Committee level.
  • Champion exceptional safety as our top priority, at all times.
  • Act as the brand ambassador for the company.
What We Are Looking For
  • Strong on-the-job experience in a similar role (B2B preferred, but B2C welcome as well).
  • University/college degree in communications or business, or related field.
  • Experience in a similar or technical industry (Maritime, Defence, Energy).
  • Strong strategic and change management mindset, embracing new ways of thinking and working.
  • Experience working with senior leadership teams, ability to step up and be on call as/when peak times demand.
  • Established relationships with key media, from trade through to regional/national.
  • Proactive, organised, agile, and adaptable, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
