About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled External Communications Manager to join our team at James Fisher and Sons plc. As a key member of our Communications and Marketing Team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive external communications strategy that enhances our brand reputation across Energy, Defence, and Maritime Transport.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish a new external communications strategy and messaging for the company, aligning with our business objectives and industry trends.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media stakeholders, including trade, national, regional, and local media outlets.
  • Collaborate with our Group Corporate Communications and Marketing Teams to understand our business, markets, and customers, and develop annual (and long-term) external communications plans that drive delivery, KPIs, and reporting.
  • Play a key role in our company's rebrand in 2024, leading external communications activity and ensuring a seamless transition.
  • Manage and work closely with our PR and creative agencies to deliver maximum value from our partnerships.
  • Monitor and measure external communications activity to demonstrate impact and ROI.
  • Act as an active member of our Emergency Response team, providing crisis communications advice and support.
  • Mentor and develop our communications executives, supporting their corporate communications careers within the company.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships within the company, from shop floor to Executive Committee level.
  • Champion exceptional safety as our top priority, at all times.
Requirements:
  • Strong on-the-job experience in a similar role (B2B preferred, but B2C welcome as well).
  • University/college degree in communications or business, or related field.
  • Experience in a similar or technical industry (Maritime, Defence, Energy).
  • Strong strategic and change management mindset, with the ability to drive new ways of thinking and working.
  • Experience working with senior leadership teams, with the ability to step up and be on call as needed.
  • Established relationships with key media stakeholders, from trade to regional/national.
  • Proactive, organized, agile, and adaptable, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Team player with outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
