Position Overview

We are excited to present a unique opportunity to become a part of our esteemed, nationally recognized Stroke Services team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. As a HCPC Registered, Advanced Speech and Language Therapy Specialist, you will play a crucial role within our Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT). This innovative service model provides a significant chance to enhance and establish high-quality care pathways, as well as contribute to MDT training initiatives. Your efforts will help foster a culture of research and development, with strong ties to our local community and academic institutions, all aimed at improving Stroke Rehabilitation.

As a dedicated and skilled clinician, you will work independently across both hospital and community settings, addressing the needs of adults facing a variety of swallowing and communication challenges. Proficiency in dysphagia is essential, and we are open to providing training for candidates who are eager to develop this competency. This role primarily involves direct clinical engagement, with potential for innovative remote work. You must be prepared to travel across a broad geographical area to meet service demands. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will assist patients in a specialized stroke unit and support their transition back to the community, ensuring a seamless and timely discharge process. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing community visits to patients' residences, community hospitals, and care facilities.
  • Demonstrating comprehensive professional and clinical expertise, particularly in adult acquired communication disorders and dysphagia, as well as neurological conditions.
  • Engaging in diverse responsibilities that encompass specialist assessment, therapy, and management for our stroke patient population.
  • Contributing to service development, training, and research opportunities, with robust peer support available through the Haywood Hospital Therapies Portfolio and the Adult SLT team.
  • Conducting thorough assessments of complex care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating tailored care packages.
  • Assuming supervisory, training, and leadership roles as appropriate, with some accountability for team performance and service enhancements.
