About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geriatric Medicine Consultant to join our team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Ageing and Complex Medicine Directorate, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our Elderly Care services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive geriatric medicine services to patients, including acute and chronic care, and coordinate care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that take into account the complex needs of elderly patients, including those with multiple comorbidities.
  • Work collaboratively with other consultants, nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines and policies.
  • Supervise and educate junior medical staff, including specialist registrars and medical students, in geriatric medicine.
  • Contribute to the development of research and quality improvement initiatives in geriatric medicine.
Requirements
  • CCT in Geriatric Medicine or equivalent qualification.
  • Recent comprehensive experience in geriatric medicine, including acute and chronic care.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest evidence-based practices in geriatric medicine.
