Position Overview

The Blood Sciences Division at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Laboratory Associate Technician to join our dynamic Pathology Division. Our laboratories are integral to the newly established Scarborough, Hull and York Pathology Service (SHYPS), delivering essential healthcare science services across a broad network.

Located in York, you will be engaged in Blood Sciences. Your responsibilities will include conducting analytical evaluations and performing upkeep on analytical apparatus under the guidance of a Biomedical Scientist. We are in search of dedicated, innovative, and collaborative individuals who thrive in a team-oriented environment.

This is a permanent role ideal for those looking to acquire laboratory experience or embark on a career in healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the analysis of patient specimens and maintain analytical apparatus in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures and quality assurance protocols.
  • Operate and care for specialized scientific instruments utilized for disease diagnosis and monitoring within the laboratory.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of reagents and supplies, maintaining proper storage conditions to preserve their integrity.
  • Organize and prioritize your individual workload effectively.
  • Prepare and select samples for examination.
  • Input patient information and results into the Laboratory Information System accurately.
  • Communicate proficiently with clinicians, nursing staff, and other service users.

Qualifications

Education

Essential

  • A foundation degree in a scientific discipline OR an NVQ level 3 in laboratory sciences OR an equivalent qualification.

Desirable

  • IBMS accredited BSc degree in Biomedical Sciences.

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience in an NHS medical laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory analytical equipment.

Desirable

  • Experience in a Blood Sciences laboratory within the NHS.
  • Experience in an Immunology laboratory within the NHS.
