Job Description

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Sales Engineer to join our Valve Automation team at MRC Global. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for generating and creating technical sales opportunities, responding to customer enquiries, and maximizing sales and margin opportunities for new and existing customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Quote Preparation: Prepare quotations, assimilation of costs, technical compliance, and assessment of margins to ensure the submission of the best commercial and technical bid to win the order.
  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance and support for customers regarding technical specifications of products, and troubleshoot applications as needed.
  • Customer Understanding: Understand the customers' business and determine customer requirements and expectations in order to recommend specific products and solutions.
  • Collaboration with Sales Management: Work closely with sales management to establish the best commercial and technical offer to meet clients' needs.
  • Quote and Order Processing: Meet the quote and order processing KPI's and maintain CRM data accurately and promptly.
  • Sales Procedures: Ensure all sales procedures and rules are understood and followed.
  • Business Systems: Ensure that business systems and tools, including SAP, are used effectively and in line with business requirements.
  • Negotiation and Communication: Carry out negotiations with clients to assess their needs, tailoring all bids and tenders to suit customer demand.
  • Sales Order Management: Ensure that sales orders are entered in line with agreed procedure and that supplier sub orders reflect the project technical and delivery schedule requirements.
  • Production and Work Instructions: Ensure that production orders and work instructions are created and distributed effectively.
  • Sales Support: Provide sales support for other colleagues in the team and advise on best practice and protocol.
  • Documentation and Communication: Ensure all sales related documentation and communications are filed in line with agreed practices and in accordance with ISO approved quality system requirements.
  • Client Liaison: Liaise with clients and attend client visits to follow up and secure bids as required.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot / problem solve issues, escalating any urgent issues immediately to management.
  • Reporting: Collate and produce regular reports as required.

Education, Experience & Ability Requirements:

Any combination of requirements, which provide knowledge and abilities necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities, will be considered.

  • A minimum of three years technical sales experience - with valves and/or automation experience preferable.
  • An understanding of oil and gas and process industry specifications is preferable.
  • Engineering background – ideally mechanical or automation.
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written.
  • Proven track record of working to tight deadlines.
  • Computer literate – experience with SAP or similar ERP system is desirable.
  • Educated to HND level or equivalent.
