About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Glaucoma Consultant to join our dynamic team at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Ophthalmology department, you will be responsible for providing expert care to patients with glaucoma, working closely with our existing consultant and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of patients with glaucoma, providing expert diagnosis, treatment, and care.
  • Work collaboratively with junior doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of our glaucoma service, including the expansion of our comprehensive service and the development of nurse practitioners and specialty optometrists.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the advancement of glaucoma care and treatment.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with our community partners, including Colchester Hospital, to ensure a unified community pathway for glaucoma care.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Entry on the Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)
  • FRCOphth or Equivalent
  • Expertise in glaucoma management and surgical treatment options, including cataract surgery and trabeculectomy
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services
  • Experience of managing junior doctors
Desirable Qualifications
  • Post CCT Fellowship in Glaucoma and/or ASTO in glaucoma
  • Ability to manage and lead specialist units, special surgery business units, and working parties
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate research
