This role within the Group Commercial Directorate focuses on developing and procuring innovative solutions for the UK’s transport framework. The vision of the Corporate Delivery Director General Group is to collaborate effectively to meet customer needs.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support commercial initiatives within the Rail Mode of the DfT's Commercial Relationship Management Team. This position is vital for delivering tailored solutions to our clients, which include various transport-related organizations.
Reporting to the Lead Commercial Relationship Manager, the role may involve leading a small team and requires collaboration within a dynamic and flexible environment.
The Group Commercial Directorate comprises four divisions: Commercial Relationship Management, Strategy, Policy and Capability, Assurance, Supply Chain and Category Management, and Operations & Continuous Improvement. This role is primarily situated within the Commercial Relationship Management division.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive support throughout the procurement lifecycle for DfT and its associated bodies
- Offering commercial insights and interventions to clients
- Participating in Commercial Assurance Boards and Investment Portfolio Development Committees
- Managing relationships with Crown Commercial Services and other governmental entities
- Contributing to the development of future shared services systems within the DfT
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in commercial management, particularly within the rail sector. They will be adept at navigating complex procurement processes and ensuring value for money in all transactions.
Responsibilities will also include:
- Assisting in high-value commercial transactions and government initiatives
- Overseeing a portfolio of commercial activities from strategy to contract initiation
- Ensuring compliance with assurance processes for all contracts
- Facilitating the procurement of significant advisory services
- Leading specific policy areas and developing procurement strategies
Additionally, the candidate should be committed to professional development, holding or working towards a procurement qualification, and be willing to engage in ongoing training and accreditation.
