Position Overview

As a pivotal member of the Mitie team, the Senior Compliance Engineer is appointed by the Chief Authorising Engineer (CAE) and plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and operational efficiency of building services systems. This position involves conducting thorough technical and operational evaluations, inspections, and various responsibilities associated with the management of engineering systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance Optimization: Analyze and mitigate performance issues through comprehensive investigations of non-compliance events.
  • Technical Audits: Execute annual audits to assess compliance with maintenance schedules and operational standards for building services systems.
  • Implementation of Safety Protocols: Enforce Mitie's Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) across various disciplines, including but not limited to High Voltage, Low Voltage, Gas, and Fire Safety.

Audit & Inspection Duties:

The Senior Compliance Engineer is tasked with performing audits of technical adherence and SSoW as directed by the CAE. The objective is to equip Account Managers with actionable insights to rectify non-compliance issues, thereby serving as an early warning mechanism for potential technical challenges.

Incident Investigation:

In the event of incidents or failures involving engineering systems, the individual will act as a Subject Matter Expert, conducting detailed investigations and providing recommendations for corrective and preventive measures. This includes performing root cause analysis (RCA) for non-compliance incidents that may lead to financial repercussions.

Demonstrating Competence:

It is essential for the Senior Compliance Engineer to present adequate evidence of their expertise to the satisfaction of the CAE. This role also encompasses various administrative tasks, including maintaining the SSoW Register and ensuring that safety documentation adheres to both Mitie and industry standards.

Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate should possess a background within the Mitie Division or be a consultant engaged by the CAE. Registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) is preferred, along with substantial experience in relevant engineering disciplines. In exceptional circumstances, the CAE may consider candidates with a robust technical background who are progressing towards IEng status.

Applicants should have a proven history of working in a similar capacity within sectors such as healthcare, education, or industry, with experience across at least two disciplines. Proficiency in conducting assessments and audits, along with relevant training in incident investigation, is essential.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of SSoW procedures and possess familiarity with the equipment and systems pertinent to their disciplines. Knowledge of Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) relevant to their areas of expertise is also required.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with analytical and problem-solving abilities, are vital for success in this role. Attention to detail and a commitment to quality are paramount.

This position involves a blend of auditing, incident investigation, and demonstrating technical competence, ensuring that all safety documentation is meticulously maintained and aligned with Mitie’s operational standards.
