Job Responsibilities

The Catering Assistant will assist in the provision of meals and refreshments, and the maintenance and cleaning of kitchen equipment. This varies across locations.

Key Relationships

This role carries no line management responsibilities. The Catering Assistant will be responsible for working alongside and/or supporting volunteers within their team.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a Level 2 food hygiene certificate or be willing and able to complete within 2 weeks of starting employment. They will also be able to work as part of a team, communicate verbally and in writing, and work within policies and procedures. Experience of working in a similar environment is also desirable.

Accountability and Complexity

This post holds no budgetary responsibility but will be expected to ensure costs and expenditures are kept within agreed limits. In the absence of the Chef, the Catering Assistant will ensure that all catering staff follow Brainkind policies and procedures. They will also be accountable for following all food and personal hygiene procedures.

Key Responsibilities

The Catering Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the preparation and serving of meals and refreshments.
  • Washing up used utensils, pans, and crockery in the dishwasher, hand washing certain items as appropriate.
  • Cleaning kitchen work surfaces, equipment, floors, fridges, freezers, and other storage cupboards in line with cleaning schedules and recording as instructed.
  • Ensuring all equipment is stored away and the kitchen left clean and tidy at the end of each shift.
  • Reporting equipment faults, repair, and maintenance needs in line with local procedures.
  • Monitoring and reporting supplies requirements.
  • Recording all information as required by Brainkind policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that meals and refreshments are attractive to service users and in line with Brainkind standards.
  • Assisting the Head Chef and Chef to provide services that meet the Brainkind and regulatory body standards.
  • Facilitating the safe and smooth running of the Service, maintaining a safe working environment, maintaining service user confidentiality, and occasionally taking on reasonable additional tasks.
