Transforming Adult Social Care

Are you passionate about enhancing adult social care across England? The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) is a prominent membership organization dedicated to those involved in adult social care.

As a charitable entity, we collaborate with professionals, various organizations, and individuals with lived experiences to influence policymakers, legislation, and decisions at local, regional, and national levels.

Our mission is to promote the positive impact of social care on individuals and communities, ensuring that everyone who requires care and support can lead fulfilling lives, irrespective of age, ability, or background.

Role Overview

We are seeking an individual with diverse communication and engagement expertise to:

  • Engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Facilitate training for members on the shared narrative essential for influencing public perception.
  • Assist members in identifying and developing compelling human stories that exemplify the best of social care.

This position presents an excellent opportunity for career advancement at a national level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and execution of a national communications training initiative for our members, including Directors, their Deputies, and Principal Social Workers.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions across various councils, necessitating a strong customer service orientation and collaboration with council colleagues.
  • Support the Director in continuously updating a training curriculum focused on media skills, social care narratives, and case study identification.
  • Manage an alumni network of trained members to share media, communication, and campaigning opportunities, assisting them in applying their training.
  • Collaborate with the broader ADASS communications team, providing support in media relations, public affairs, campaigns, digital communications, and internal communications.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to undertake additional tasks as agreed with your line manager.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and building trust-based relationships with partner organizations.
  • Background in customer service and/or experience supporting membership organizations is advantageous.
  • Ability to develop training materials and deliver training sessions, even to small groups.
  • Experience in organizing large-scale meetings, including facilitating webinars or online training sessions.
  • Prior knowledge of adult social care, health, or local government is beneficial but not mandatory.

Work Environment

This role is primarily home-based with required travel at least monthly for team meetings. Team members work in a London office twice weekly, and candidates are welcome to utilize the office as desired.

Regular travel is necessary to deliver training at councils across England, with all travel expenses covered.

We are committed to being family-friendly, flexible, and accommodating various working arrangements. This position is structured as a full-time role, with a standard of 35 hours per week, though discussions regarding reduced hours and flexible working arrangements are encouraged to meet the needs of the business.
