Job Title: Assistant Lawyer

Keoghs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Lawyer to join our team in Manchester. As a key member of our Crime and Regulatory department, you will play a vital role in assisting Partners in dealing with regulatory cases, motor crime, and inquest work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze prosecution evidence, considering implications for clients
  • Draft statements of insured witnesses
  • Review client evidence, obtaining, collating, and summarizing evidence for lead file handlers
  • Liaise with Courts, Coroners' Offices, and regulatory bodies
  • Liaise with experts, instructing and summarizing expert evidence
  • Serve Defence case statements, sentencing bundles, and mitigation bundles
  • Draft written submissions, following liaison with clients
  • Liaise with Insureds regarding prosecution cases and disclosure requirements
  • Review transcripts of evidence
  • Organize and attend conferences, drafting notes of discussion and following agreed strategies
  • Attend interviews under caution and trials, drafting notes of evidence and outcome
  • Arrange meetings, conferences, site visits, and expert appointments
  • Chase transcripts and disclosure, collating evidence
  • Review medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage
  • Attend site, take photos, and draft basic statements
  • Research relevant HSE guidelines and Insured corporate structures
  • Collate witness availability and prepare bundles for hearings

Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year's experience in crime, regulatory, or care home inquest work
  • Ability to prioritize workload and pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work with case management systems and deal with Insureds in a sensitive manner
  • Good telephone and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Calm under pressure, with good literacy and IT skills
