Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and analysis of prosecution evidence and considering implications for lay clients and companies
  • Drafting statements of insured witnesses
  • Review of client evidence - obtaining, collating, indexing, cross-referencing with own statements and prosecution statements, summarizing evidence for lead file handlers
  • Liaising with Courts, Coroners' Offices, and relevant regulators
  • Liaising with experts - instructing own experts, summarizing expert evidence, serving reports
  • Serving Defence case statements, sentencing bundles, and mitigation bundles
  • Drafting written submissions, following liaison with lay clients and corporate clients
  • Liaising with Insureds regarding prosecution cases and disclosure requirements
  • Reviewing transcripts of evidence
  • Organizing and attending conferences and meetings, drafting notes of discussion and following agreed strategies
  • Attendance and representation at interviews under cautions
  • Attendance behind Counsel for trials and inquests - drafting notes of evidence, outcome, and sentencing
  • Arranging meetings, conferences, site visits, and expert appointments
  • Chasing for transcripts and disclosure, collating evidence
  • Review of medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage
  • Attending sites, taking photos, and drafting basic statements
  • Research into relevant HSE guidelines
  • Research into Insureds' corporate structures, procedures, risk assessments, and documents
  • Collating witness availability
  • Preparation of bundles for hearings, serving bundles

Requirements:

  • A qualified Solicitor with at least 1 year's experience in crime, regulatory, or care home inquest experience
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with case management systems
  • Personal skills to deal with Insureds in a sensitive manner
  • Good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels
  • Calm under pressure
  • Self-confidence, good literacy, and IT skills
  • Good team worker with flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
  • Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Values framework

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary to be discussed on application, hybrid working with a minimum of 1 day in the office and remainder remote working, private medical insurance, permanent health insurance, critical illness cover, Health Care Cash Plan, 25 days' holiday plus 8 bank holidays (opportunity to buy and sell 3 days), holidays rising to 26 days after 5 years' service and 27 days after 10 years' service, Death in Service after 1 year, Employer Pension Contribution, Cycle to Work Scheme, Tech Scheme, Season Ticket Loan, and Gym Flex (after successfully completing probation)
