Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Barclays data architecture:
  • Ensure adherence to data modelling standards and guidelines.
  • Manage essential data modelling artifacts, including party data structures.
  • Supervise architectural modifications to guarantee compliance with established data modelling protocols.
  • Facilitate data modelling design authorities and collaborative groups, including the commissioning, reuse, and migration of data models across business sectors.
  • Integrate data models with metadata management and suitable data engineering tools to endorse a 'model-first' engineering methodology.
  • Guide critical programs towards a unified strategy for sourcing, controlling, and reporting data.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer and Chief Data and Analytics Officers to create domain-specific data models and/or define data products.
  • Devise a top-tier metadata management tooling strategy to automate the upkeep of data models.
  • Support pivotal enterprise data initiatives.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
  • Over 10 years of experience in leading and developing teams of senior technology professionals in customer-facing roles.
  • More than 10 years of design, implementation, or consulting experience in data architectures.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to adapt to emerging technologies and learn swiftly.
  • Public speaking proficiency.
  • A technical degree is required (or equivalent work experience); a background in Computer Science is highly preferred.
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with software development tools and methodologies.
  • Act as a role model and mentor, aiding in the development of technical expertise within the engineering and architecture community.
  • Serve as an evangelist, both internally and externally, to enhance the Architecture community and establish credibility in specific technologies.
  • Strong written communication capabilities.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies with a focus on successful implementation within a large organization.
  • Experience in software development and/or the financial sector.
  • Function as a trusted advisor for specific technologies, platforms, or capabilities, shaping use cases and implementations effectively.
Role Purpose

The objective of this role is to define, direct, and govern the bank's target data architecture, including the shared data environment, data models, and standards, in alignment with business strategies, ensuring data accuracy, security, and accessibility to meet stakeholder needs.

Accountabilities
  • Develop the bank's data architecture strategy, translating organizational goals into a target data architecture and transition plan.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data operations, engineers, and analysts, to provide expertise and promote standardized, safe, and value-driven data usage.
  • Establish and maintain governance, standards, and protection policies for data architecture, ensuring data quality and protection of sensitive information.
  • Guide project alignment with the target data architecture through the provision of data solutions and progress monitoring.
  • Define shared reusable data capabilities, assets, tools, and technologies for connecting diverse data sources and optimizing data access.
  • Oversee the overarching data model that dictates the logical and physical structure of the bank's data resources.
  • Monitor regulatory standards and industry developments for potential impacts on operations and controls.
  • Select and assess best-in-class data technologies to ensure compliance with service level agreements and quality standards.
Director Expectations
  • Provide expert guidance to senior management and committees, influencing decisions beyond the immediate function.
  • Manage and coordinate resources, budgeting, and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Address breaches of policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Promote compliance and ensure relevant processes are in place.
  • Engage with external environments, regulators, or advocacy groups to monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the broader business to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices, along with insights into market developments.
  • Utilize advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems and design effective solutions.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions within the area.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
  • Act as the primary contact for key clients and counterparts in other divisions.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
