Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance of the Barclays data architecture framework.
  • Manage data modeling standards and ensure adherence across the organization.
  • Supervise the core data modeling artifacts, including comprehensive party data models.
  • Facilitate architectural change initiatives to align with established data modeling standards.
  • Lead data modeling design authorities and collaborative working groups, including the commissioning, reuse, and migration of data models from various business sectors.
  • Integrate data models with metadata management and suitable data engineering tools to endorse a 'model-first' engineering methodology.
  • Guide key programs towards a unified approach for sourcing, controlling, and reporting data.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Information Officer and Chief Data Analytics Officers to create domain-specific data models and/or define data products.
  • Design a top-tier metadata management tooling strategy to automate the upkeep of data models.
  • Support significant enterprise data initiatives.
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
  • Over 10 years of experience in leading and developing teams of senior technology professionals with client-facing roles.
  • More than 10 years of experience in designing, implementing, or consulting on data architectures.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to adapt to emerging technologies and learn swiftly.
  • Public speaking proficiency and comfort in addressing an audience.
  • A technical degree is required (or equivalent professional experience); a background in Computer Science is highly preferred.
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with software development tools and methodologies.
  • Act as a role model and mentor, enhancing the technical skills and knowledge of the engineering and solution architecture community.
  • Serve as an advocate both internally and externally, elevating the Architecture community and becoming a trusted resource on specific technologies.
  • Strong written communication capabilities.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to new technologies with a focus on successful implementation within a large organization.
  • Experience in software development and/or the financial sector.
  • Function as a trusted advisor for specific technologies, platforms, or capability domains, shaping use cases and implementations effectively.
Role Purpose

To define, guide, and govern the bank's target data architecture, including shared data environments, data models, and standards, in alignment with business strategies, ensuring data accuracy, security, and accessibility for stakeholders.

Accountabilities
  • Develop the bank's data architecture strategy, translating organizational goals into a target data architecture and transition roadmap.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data operations, engineers, and analysts, to provide expertise and promote standardized, consistent, and value-driven data usage.
  • Establish and maintain governance, standards, and protection policies for data architecture, ensuring data quality and the safeguarding of sensitive information.
  • Align projects with the target data architecture through guidance, data solutions, and progress monitoring.
  • Define shared reusable data capabilities, assets, tools, and technologies for connecting diverse data sources and optimizing data access.
  • Oversee a comprehensive data model that dictates the logical and physical structuring of data within the bank's resources.
  • Monitor regulatory standards and industry trends for potential impacts on operations and application portfolios.
  • Select and assess best-in-class data technologies, ensuring compliance with service level agreements and quality standards.
Director Expectations
  • Provide expert counsel to senior management and committees, influencing decisions beyond your function and contributing to strategic initiatives.
  • Manage and coordinate resources, budgeting, and policy development for a significant sub-function.
  • Address breaches of policies and procedures appropriately.
  • Promote compliance and ensure regulations are followed with relevant processes in place.
  • Engage with external environments, regulators, or advocacy groups to monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays when necessary.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division to achieve overall objectives.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within your discipline, alongside current sector insights.
  • Utilize advanced analytical skills to solve complex problems and design effective solutions.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions within your area.
  • Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels both internally and externally.
  • Act as the primary contact for key clients and counterparts in other divisions.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
