Deputy Monitoring Officer Role

Our client, a Local Authority in the South-East, is seeking a Deputy Monitoring Officer to join their Legal Services team on an interim basis. The successful candidate will support the Monitoring Officer and provide technical legal support, particularly in report writing and guidance.

The postholder will work closely with the Chief Executive and s151 Officer to drive improvements in governance and consider and recommend action in connection with corporate governance, legal, procedural, or constitutional issues.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with Members and other stakeholders. They will also have a strong understanding of governance and legal principles, with experience in report writing and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Monitoring Officer in ensuring the council's democratic and decision-making arrangements operate effectively.
  • Provide technical legal support, particularly in report writing and guidance.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive and s151 Officer to drive improvements in governance.
  • Consider and recommend action in connection with corporate governance, legal, procedural, or constitutional issues.
