Within our multidisciplinary team, the role of psychology is pivotal in shaping and implementing these services. We are looking for an Assistant Practitioner in Clinical Psychology who is passionate about supporting adult learning disability services. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and/or experience relevant to the context of services for individuals with learning disabilities and demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team. You will engage directly with service users who have learning disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviors, as well as their families, caregivers, and other stakeholders. A first-class Psychology Degree or a Master's Degree in Psychology is required. Proficiency in research methodologies, data analysis, computer skills, and strong written communication abilities are essential. Our service maintains strong connections with doctoral training programs in Clinical Psychology, regularly offering clinical placements to doctoral trainees.

Key Responsibilities

- Enhance and support the professional psychological care of service users across various care sectors.
- Conduct psychological assessments and interventions under the close supervision of a qualified psychologist.
- Work independently following a plan established with a qualified psychologist, adhering to the team's policies and procedures.
- Assist with clinically related administrative tasks, audits, data collection, and the development of research projects and teaching initiatives.

Job Requirements

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • A minimum of a 2:1 honors degree or higher in Psychology.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

  • Additional postgraduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health, or learning disability practice and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities and those with dual diagnoses (additional mental health issues).

Desirable

  • Experience in paid roles providing direct care.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to engage in emotionally charged environments.
  • Capacity to convey sensitive information to patients, caregivers, and colleagues in a manner that addresses psychological resistance.
  • Understanding of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities and those with dual diagnoses.
  • Ability to apply psychological knowledge within a mental health and learning disability context.
  • Familiarity with psychology as it pertains to healthcare.

Desirable

  • Experience using computers for database management or data analysis, particularly with SPSS for Windows.
  • High standard of report writing.
