We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Engineering Manager to become part of our team at Arriva UK Bus.

In the role of Assistant Engineering Manager, you will support the Engineering Manager in overseeing a streamlined engineering operation, ensuring that service delivery aligns with the required performance vehicle requirements while adhering to budget constraints and maintaining essential KPIs and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Engineering Manager:

  • Act as the designated individual for ensuring depot security and compliance with safe working practices among all team members.
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to the team, ensuring efficient and safe servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of vehicles and components according to established specifications.
  • Plan and allocate workloads effectively, collaborating with other Team Leaders to prioritize tasks and implement best practices to meet service and KPI objectives.
  • Ensure that the necessary resources, such as parts, consumables, tools, and equipment, are available to the team as required.
  • Identify root causes and target areas for improvement in fleet reliability, focusing on reducing breakdowns, enhancing planned maintenance, and minimizing lost mileage.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to manage engineering costs within the depot while improving the efficiency and capabilities of the engineering team.

Qualifications for the Assistant Engineering Manager:

  • A solid engineering background with demonstrated experience in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of heavy vehicles, equipment, or machinery, ideally within the Bus or HGV sector.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations, with a commitment to leading by example in adhering to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team, fostering a safe and productive work environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with a willingness to engage with all staff and accept feedback constructively.
  • Experience in collaborating with Trade Union representatives.
